Election Compliance Services is responsible for administering municipal elections, including those of the offices of the Mayor, City Council, City Auditor, and the Board of Education. This unit accepts filings of statements of economic interest and campaign disclosures. Election Compliance Services also conducts voter registration outreach activities throughout the year.
Election Compliance Services assists candidates in meeting their legal responsibilities before, during and after an election. From election preplanning to certification of election results and filing of final campaign disclosure statements, this unit manages the process that forms the foundation of our democratic system of government.
In addition, Election Compliance Services works closely with the Public Ethics Commission. The Public
Ethics Commission is a charter mandated commission that is responsible for responding to City of Oakland Compliance issues, its elected officials, officers, employees, boards and commissions with regard to City regulations and policies intended to assure fairness, openness, honesty and integrity in City government. These regulations include Oakland's Campaign Finance Reform Ordinance, conflict of interest code, code of ethics and any ordinance intended to supplement the Brown Act, like the Sunshine Ordinance. The Public Ethics Commission also makes recommendations to the City Council regarding these matters.
