In 1997 the Oakland City Council adopted an Economic Development Strategy to create "a place for people and a place for business." This strategy identifies five targeted industries including: Bioscience / Biotechnology, Software / Multimedia, Food Processing, Transportation, and Telecommunication as growing industries in which Oakland has a strategic advantage. Due to its unique location in the Bay Area, its highly qualified workforce and proximity to top-notch research institutions as well as a major Port and International Airport, Oakland offers a considerable advantage to companies in the business of moving goods, people or ideas. |
