Oakland Higher Education Consortium

 

MISSION:

The Oakland Higher Education Center exists to improve the quality of life for working adults and students by providing access to multiple higher education service providers within a shared urban facility. The Center strives to use education as an empowerment tool for its student and corporate clients through the delivery of adult education, certificate training, and degree completion programs of the highest caliber.

The Oakland Higher Education Consortium is committed to creating a higher education network of colleges and universities based in an urban center and committed to lifelong learning that will improve one's quality of life.

Member Schools

 

California State University, Hayward Extended and Continuing Education offers a wide variety of certificate programs such as Human Resource Management and Non-Profit Management for career advancement, professional development, and personal enrichment. Other programs in Oakland include the Master of Public Administration, a BA in Human Development, and the Teacher Education "Oakland Partnership Program." Lincoln University now in its 81st year, is an American university with an international perspective, operating in Oakland as a private, non-private, non-sectarian institution granting B.A., B.S., and M.B.A degrees. Lincoln University has and outstanding intensive English program (ALP-SOL: American Language Program for Speakers of Other Languages), offers a full range of general education and foundation courses, and has undergraduate degree programs in computer science and business administration. New College of California is an accredited, alternative college born in 1971 out of the spirit of idealism that characterized the social movements of the 1960’s. Offering graduate and undergraduate degrees, New College seeks to link education with the creation of a just, sacred, and sustainable society. The New College of California Press is a new alternative university press that aspires to publish works of all kinds that reflect the college’s transformative spiritual and political vision. The Weekend College Humanities B.A. Completion Program held at the Higher Education Center is an accelerated undergraduate program designed for self-motivated, disciplined, working adults who have accumulated previous college credits and require a flexible weekend schedule. Students work closely with an advisor, take monthly interdisciplinary humanities seminars, keep a journal, and complete a senior thesis project. Saint Mary’s College of California – School of Extended Education offers degree programs, certificates, and courses at its downtown Oakland City Center location at 500 12th Street, Suite 100. Adult learners can pursue Bachelor of Arts degrees in Management and in Health Services Administration, a Master’s of Science in Health Services Administration, a Paralegal Certificate Program, and Weekend College courses in a variety of professional and academic subjects. San Francisco State University, Multimedia Studies Program is one of the premiere multimedia education programs. The SFSU MSP links the expertise of new media industry professionals to the best practice of academia. Students get the benefit of an invaluable real-world perspective on virtually every aspect of new industries, paired with SFSU’s high academic standards. The curriculum goes beyond tools and practical skills and encompasses design, theory, and technique. University of California, Berkeley Extension is the continuing education arm of University of California at Berkeley and is one of the oldest and largest continuing education programs in the country.
