Funding

Originally CORE was funded by a grant from FEMA, matched by City funds. Later CORE was supported by the Fire Suppression District and the City of Oakland. CORE program expenses have also been reimbursed through FEMA-funded grants.

In November 2004, the Fireman's Fund Heritage Program donated $100,000 to CORE to help expand and upgrade CORE training throughout Oakland.

In July 2006, the Oakland City Council voted to provide funds in the amount of $257,000 for a permanent CORE annual budget. These funds support two additional full-time staff dedicated to CORE, the enhancement of training materials and supplies, and the development of new CORE program components.
