The Vegetation Management Unit is charged with helping the citizens of the City of Oakland to be a wildfire safe community by:
Wildfire Prevention Assessment District
- Inspecting approximately 26,000 private, public, and undeveloped properties in the Wildfire Prevention Assessment District
- Enforcing compliance to the legal standards for public and fire safety year round (See Standards)
- Ensuring that vegetation management and fuel reduction is conducted on all City-owned property with other City agency partners and private contractors
- Collaborating with other regional agencies and jurisdictions in the Hills Emergency Forum partnership (See HEF membership)
