Department of Engineering and Construction
The Department of Engineering and Construction consists of three organizational divisions:
Engineering Design and Right of Way Management,
Project Delivery, and
Transportation Services.The Department of Engineering and Construction is responsible for planning, designing and constructing major capital improvements throughout the City of Oakland. Client Departments include the
Police and
Fire Departments,
Office of Parks and Recreation, the
Oakland Public Library, and the
Redevelopment Agency.
The Department maintains the City’s traffic signals, coordinates and inspects the work of utility companies such as the East Bay Municipal Utilities District and PG&E in City streets, and provides survey and materials testing services. The Department also provides as-needed planning, engineering and construction management services in response to emergencies.
Capital Projects
Capital Projects include street, sewer and storm drainage improvements and renovation or new construction of City-owned facilities, including fire stations, libraries, and park and recreation facilities. Some current major projects include:
