Sanitary Sewer Section
This section is responsible for the overall planning and management of the Sanitary Sewer and Storm Drainage Capital Improvements Program. The section also provides engineering services to other City departments when requested.
The section is also responsible for the following functions:
- Establishing and updating engineering design standards
- Sanitary Sewer Design Guidelines
- Storm Drainage Design Guidelines
- Sanitary sewer capital program
- Infiltration / inflow correction program
- DEIR / EIR review
- P-Job review
- Sewer mitigation fee
- Regulatory compliance
- Sewer and storm drain investigations
- Other tasks as needed

- Most of the system is over 50 years old, and some as old as 100 years.
- Respond to 2,900 calls annually and provide routine inspection and maintenance of pipes to prevent spills.
- A sewer service charge on your EBMUD water bill is used for capital repairs and maintenance of the sanitary sewer system.
