Safe Routes to School Toolkit

The Safe Routes to School Toolkit contains resources to promote walking and pedestrian safety through Oakland's elementary schools. The Oakland Pedestrian Safety Project developed this toolkit for principals, community organizers, teachers, and parents to promote walking to school as a safe and healthy activity. It explains what we have learned over the years from working with schools on pedestrian safety, pick-up/drop-off issues, and Walk to School Day. It answers a request that we've received from principals, teachers, and parents to extend Walk to School Day from a one day event to a year round program. This toolkit is our effort to develop such a comprehensive Safe Routes to School program in Oakland.

The Safe Routes to School Toolkit is organized in three folders, one each for principals/organizers, teachers, and parents. The Principal/Organizers' folder contains a complete set of all resources plus Spanish and Chinese versions of selected flyers.
