MAJOR PROJECTS

The Major Projects Section was created in recognition of the importance of development to the economic and revitalization efforts of the City and a need to focus staff efforts in support of these activities. This Section facilitates plans and processes major development projects, which are typically larger size projects over 50 residential units or 50,000 square feet. Staff provides experienced project management for the most complex development projects, including those requiring an expertise on environmental review, redevelopment law, and multi-agency and multi-division coordination. The Major Projects Section also serves as a primary resource for professional planning services for the CEDA Divisions and reviews environmental disclosure documents from City Agencies and other jurisdictions under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the Federal National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The Major Projects Section is also responsible for the review of Port sponsored projects to ensure conformity with the General Plan, and serves as City liaison for major development efforts in the Port of Oakland jurisdiction.
