DIRECTOR’S REPORT

  • Altenheim, 1720 MacArthur Blvd.: Status of Notice of Intent to submit an Oakland Landmark and S-7 Preservation application and report on meetings with A.F. Evans, Developer, members of the Altenheim and Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board, and staff to discuss project process for reuse of the Altenheim.
  • Ky Ebright Boathouse, 2909 Glascock Street - relocation of a portion and demolition of the remainder; Iconco facility, 303 Derby Avenue - demolition; construction of 100 condominium residential dwellings: Status of proposal and Planning Commission Action at January 22, 2003 meeting.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES of January 13, 2003

DESIGN REVIEW

  1. Action on Mountain View Cemetery, 5000 Piedmont Avenue: Design Review referral on application for a Conditional Use Permit to construct a new 106-seat chapel, and an approximately 18,800 square foot mausoleum and columbarium, located along the main circular driveway between the Gothic Chapel (PDHP on the Local Register; OCHS rating: A1+), the cemetery administration building (PDHP on the Local Register; OCHS rating: A1+), and the Weeks and Days Mausoleum building. Design Review recommendation by Board for consideration by Planning Director. [Potential Designated Historic Property (PDHP) on the Local Register; Oakland Cultural Heritage Survey (OCHS) rating: Area of Primary Importance (API).] Case Planner - Andrew Smith.

  2. Action on the Cathedral Building, 1615 Broadway: Design Review application to install two automatic teller machines (ATM) (one facing Broadway & one facing Telegraph Avenue) and two new light fixtures. Design Review recommendation for consideration by Planning Director. [Zoning: C-55 Central Core Commercial, S-8 Urban Street Combining, S-17 Downtown Residential Open Space Combining. Designated Historic Property (DHP); Area of Primary Importance (API) - anchor/Downtown Historic District; OCHS rating - A1+; National Register of Historic Places.]

  3. DISCUSSION

  4. Pending Landmark Nominations: Discussion to select five buildings to initiate for Landmark Designation by the LPAB in 2003.
  5. Proposed closure of the landmark Carnegie Libraries in the City of Oakland based on recent budget developments.

SECRETARY REPORTS

  • Request for LPAB member to volunteer to attend regular monthly meetings of the Friends of the Oakland Fox Theatre.
