Landmark nomination submitted by Oakland Heritage Alliance and Friends of the Ninth Avenue Terminal

Recommendation:

LPAB Action to Adopt Resolution Initiating Landmark Designation and direct staff to forward the nomination to the Planning Commission for public hearing on the proposed designation.

Location:

230 Bay Place, Cox Cadillac Site

Proposal:

Amendment to an Approved design review consisting of the elimination of the residential component of the project and the redesign and enlargement of the grocery store component from a 28,300 sq. ft. addition to a 44,300 sq. ft. addition to the rear of the 11,700 sq. ft. Landmark Cox Cadillac showroom, including a two-story parking structure, with the upper level as an open, roof parking area. The existing Landmark Cox Cadillac showroom would be rehabilitated as previously approved, with a modification to the location of the elevator/stair circulation within the showroom.

 

Recommendation:

LPAB Action - Recommend approval of design review, with conditions. Comment on historic and cultural resource issues.

Proposal:

Design Review of last phase to complete 33-year restoration/rehabilitation, including: 1) carpentry at exterior railings of the veranda rear roof and law library; 2) carpentry at solarium windows, pilaster bases, wainscoting assembly and corner board base; and 3) exterior painting.

 

Recommendation:

LPAB Action - Recommend approval of design review, with conditions.
