Gonzales Appointed Director of Intergovernmental Affairs

Oakland, CA – Gilda Gonzales has been appointed Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for the City of Oakland.

In this position, Gonzales will manage the City’s state legislative program in Sacramento, coordinate the City’s federal legislative program, support Oakland’s participation in the League of California Cities and the National League of Cities, and manage all general legislative matters.

"Ms. Gonzales has extensive knowledge of the legislative process and is the best choice to represent the City of Oakland to other legislative bodies," said City Administrator Robert C. Bobb.

In her tenure with the City of Oakland, Gonzales has served as Chief of Staff to both Oakland’s Mayor and the City Administrator. In addition to her duties as Chief of Staff, she has served as Assistant to the Budget & Finance Agency Director, was appointed to the Board of Directors of Oakland Unified School District and was the Legislative Assistant and Chief Policy Director for former Oakland Mayor, Elihu Harris. She was a former Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco, teaching theoretical principles and practical applications of public administration.

Gonzales received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Psychology from St. Mary’s College of Moraga and a Master of Public Administration at California State University at Hayward.

Gonzales will begin her duties as Director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs August 1, 2001.
