I hope you had a great summer. Oakland will be facing some significant challenges this fall and we are looking for your help.
I want to start by welcoming our new Chief of Police, Anthony Batts, and invite you to hear his vision for policing for Oakland at our community meeting on Saturday, October 10th. Please see the back page for a short interview with the new Chief.
As you may know this past June and July, the City Council was forced to make significant cuts in services to deal with a deficit of more than $93 Million. Because of the serious budget cuts, which are not over, the City cut the Public Works Department budget for park maintenance dramatically. There are many parks and median strips that need our help. As you go around town, you can see tall weeds, litter and other problems in our parks.
In order to address this issue, my office is starting the North Oakland Parks Volunteer Project
as a safety net for our parks and medians. We are asking you to join us in volunteering to help
keep our parks and median strips maintained. For details please look inside and sign up to volunteer.![]()
