Councilmember Jane Brunner is a member of the Oakland City Council, and Chair of the Community and Economic Development Committee. She represents North Oakland on the City Council.
Councilmember Jane Brunner is a member of the Oakland City Council, and Chair of the Community and Economic Development Committee. She represents North Oakland on the City Council. On the City Council Ms. Brunner has provided leadership by:
1) providing $2 million extra to the police department for the recruitment of new officers and raising police pay to one of the highest in the state to make sure they stay; 2) launching Oakland’s Sustainable Community Development Initiative; 3) bringing socially responsible businesses to Oakland; 4) establishing a comprehensive approach to job training for Oakland residents; 5) developing programs for Affordable Housing that have brought millions of dollars and hundreds of units of affordable housing to Oakland; 6) greening Oakland by planting thousands of trees; 7) co-chairing the Measure DD initiative that generated $198 million for Lake Merritt and the Estuary; and 8) initiating Oakland’s participation in the Chicago Climate Exchange.
In addition to her City Council responsibilities, Ms. Brunner is an attorney with Siegel & Yee specializing in employment issues. Previously she served as staff attorney with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, 1245.
Ms. Brunner is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (BA) and University of California Hastings College of the Law (JD). She is a former public school special education teacher. Ms. Brunner is the mother of two children and has been a resident of Oakland for over thirty years.
