Estuary
In November, 2002, 80% of Oakland voters approved Measure DD, which
will raise $198 million for open space projects on the waterfront, at
Lake Merritt and along our creeks. Councilmember Brunner was a key leader in the campaign for Measure DD and is providing City Council leadership on the development and implementation of the estuary plan.

Job Training
- The City of Oakland spends millions of dollars per year on job
training programs. The effective and efficient use of these funds is
overseen by Oakland's Workforce Investment Board, on which
Councilmember Brunner sits.
Affordable Housing
- After convening an Affordable Housing Task Force in 2000, Councilmember Brunner has pushed for more funding for affordable housing throughout Oakland. She has spearheaded major affordable housing efforts including a $40 million bond to fund affordable housing development, the adoption of an Office Linkage fee which requires commercial developers to contribute to Oakland’s affordable housing fund, a 5% increase in the amount of redevelopment funds set aside for affordable housing, and the adoption of California’s strongest Single Room Occupancy replacement requirement. The Council is currently pursuing a state and regional Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance, which would require certain amounts of affordable housing in private development projects. Councilmember Brunner is also a consistent supporter of reasonable rent controls and eviction protections for tenants.

Skyline Blvd.

MARKET STREET/MARTIN LUTHER KING AREA
Linden Street Park
- My office recently completed a $150,000 renovation of Linden Street Park including two new play structures with safe, accessible rubber surfacing, new benches and an accessible drinking fountain. The North Oakland Charter School has moved into the building adjacent to the park and the kids are using the park as their primary playground. In a true city-school partnership, volunteers from the school are beautifying the park with plantings and maintenance activities.
Streetscapes
- Both MLK and Market Street have recently been repaved. Market Street was re-striped from 4 to 3 lanes of traffic with bicycle lanes. This project, known as a "road diet", will slow vehicle traffic, reduce speeding, and diminish conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians. Additionally, the new configuration will encourage bicycle commuting, an environmentally friendly way to travel.

activities for students in grades 1 5. The program is a partnership
between the City of Oakland, Parks and Recreation Department, and the
Oakland Unified School District. Councilmember Brunner's Office is also developing a list of youth

SHATTUCK
Shattuck Avenue Entrance to Bushrod Park
- Construction is nearly complete on the Shattuck Avenue entrance to Bushrod Park ! The final design is for a stairway to go from the sidewalk on Shattuck Avenue up to a small plaza at the top of the hill next to the tennis courts. There will be two pedestrian-scale street lights marking the entrance to the park along with raised, landscaped planting beds lining the stairwell. In order to construct the stairway and plaza, two older trees had to be removed, but a total of 13 new trees will planted as part of the project. All trees and shrubs will be fully irrigated to ensure their healthy growth. My office has contributed $300,000 from our “Pay-Go” funds for this project.Click here for a look at the plans.
