Oakland, CA (October 16, 2000) – Oakland City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente will host a press conference today at 4:00 p.m., announcing the final court decision in the Oak Park tenants lawsuit. The 2:00 p.m. court ruling will conclude a four-year legal battle led by Oakland tenant attorney Jay Koslofsky on behalf of 45 Latino and South East Asian families who’ve been subjected to unsanitary and dangerous living conditions in their 54-unit slum apartment complex.

Parties anticipate the court will approve a settlement agreement negotiated by De La Fuente that includes a record cash payment for the 45 families, as well as immediate transfer of the property to a non-profit affordable housing developer for rehabilitation into safe, affordable housing for the plaintiffs and their families.
