Community Development and CDBG Overview
The City
distributes Community Development Funds through the federal
CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) program.
This site explains the program, the application process,
eligibility, and types of projects funded through CDBG.
If the CDBG program does not fit your needs, you may want
to contact one of the many non-profits in Oakland and elsewhere
that can provide other community development resources.
See our other community development
resources section for this information.
About
the CDBG program in Oakland

Each year,
the federal government distributes CDBG funds to cities
for their local community development projects. The
major focus of Oakland's CDBG program is physical development
activities--community-wide housing, public facilities and
improvements, neighborhood revitalization, and economic
development. A restricted portion of the grant funds
can be expended for public services activities. CDBG funds
are directed to uses identified by the Consolidated Plan.
The Citizen
Participation Plan guides the participation process.
See the participation plan to find out how you can be involved.
