Affordable
(Assisted) Housing in the City of Oakland
New Projects
New
projects (rental and homeownership) that are under
construction but will be available soon are listed here.
AB
987 Databases
AB
987, which went into effect on January 1, 2008, requires
all California Redevelopment Agencies to maintain and
publish databases of new and substantially rehabilitated
housing assisted by the Redevelopment Agency. Required
information includes the address and parcel number(s)
of the property, number of units with number of bedrooms,
year construction was completed, the date affordability
restrictions were recorded, the recording number of
those restrictions, and the date the restrictions expire.
The
Oakland Redevelopment Agency has prepared two databases
in compliance with these requirements - one for assisted
rental housing, and one for assisted ownership housing.
AB
987 Database - Rental Housing
AB
987 Database - Owner-Occupied Housing
Rentals
Assisted
Rental Housing in Oakland (pdf) - a list of
all affordable housing developments in Oakland. While
you may use this list to locate affordable housing projects,
this is NOT a list of available or vacant housing.
Please note that most completed affordable housing projects
are full and have closed waiting lists.
Rental
listings may be found through commercial agencies and
through local media. Some of these sources are listed
on our rental/real estate
page.
Homes
/ Ownership Units
New
homes - Lists of affordable ownership units being built
can be found on the list of projects
underway. You may want to contact the developer
of a project to determine when homes will be completed
and for sale.
Existing
homes - Homes/units that were originally built as affordable
housing are not marketed by the City. Current owners
who choose to sell their homes may do so via traditional
means, such as real estate agents and local real
estate listings. Some of these homes are subject
to resale controls to ensure continuing affordability;
others may be sold at market rate and the subsidies
repaid to the City.
Special
Needs / AIDS Housing
Please
see our Special
Needs/AIDS Housing page under Homelessness and Hunger.
