The  Employment and Classification
Division


This division is essential to City departments in providing qualified candidates for employment and for maintaining a competitive classification and compensation system to retain employees in the City's workforce. Local statewide and national candidates are recruited that reflect the City's diversity objectives.

The Division also promotes the development and recruitment of Oakland residents by working closely with community agencies, participating in job fairs and by providing employment information, counseling and job readiness training.

Staff serve as consultants on matters such as examination appeals, position appointments, negotiations with employee bargaining groups, appropriateness of classification and compensation and organizational development and structure.
