FY 2004 UASI GRANT BACKGROUND:

The federal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has provided funding to California's Office of Homeland Security (OHS) through the Fiscal Year 2004 Urban Area Security Initiative (FY 04 UASI) grant.

The grant provides funds to develop a regional security strategy that:

  • Addresses the unique planning, equipment, training and exercise needs of large urban areas, and;
  • Assists urban areas in building an enhanced and sustainable capacity to prevent, respond to and recover from threats or acts of terrorism

The City of Oakland was selected as the core city for the urban area defined as the City of Oakland , Alameda and Contra Costa counties and their jurisdictions, as well as the Port of Oakland , the East Bay Municipal Utility District , AC Transit , and the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART).

The Oakland/Alameda County/Contra Costa County Urban Area (OAC UA) has been awarded a grant for $7,808,348 for fiscal year 2004. Future awards are not known at this time, and will be provided as soon as the information becomes available.
