Joaquin Miller, the ParkIn 1919, the Oakland parks Department purchased approximately 68 acres from Joaquin Miller's estate, allowing his wife and daughter, Juanita, to live out their lives their in their homes. By 1929, when developers began building nearly, the Save the Redwoods League purchased adjacent redwood groves, where were later acquired by the City. In 2004, the city bought eight acres of nearby Castle Canyon using Measure K funds. Today, Joaquin Miller Park covers more than 500 acres. many of its trails lead to adjacent Roberts and Redwood Regional Parks, which are part of the East Bay Regional Park System. 2009 Stewardship Summary |
