CORE instructors come to your group.

CORE I: Home and Family Preparedness

Learn how to minimize hazards in your home and develop a specific plan to increase your family’s safety before, during and after a major disaster.

CORE II: Neighbors Together: Forming Response Teams and Linking Resources

You will learn how to set up a centralized command center and response teams that act as integrated units as well as how to identify and order the neighborhood’s needs and resources available in various disasters.

These are each 2-hour classes taught by OES staff and require a minimum of 20 in attendance. The meetings can be held in private homes or in local churches, libraries and schools.

CORE groups go to the Oakland Fire Department Training Center.

CORE III: Beginning Response Tactics

    • Damage Assessment
    • Light Search and Rescue
    • Safety and Utilities
    • Triage and Disaster Medical
  • Basic Fire Suppression
  • Group Practice Exercise (simulated earthquake)

CORE IV:Fire Suppression and Prevention: Advanced Citizen Training
(offered on a very limited basis)

  • Fire Behavior
  • Fire Prevention/Vegetation Management
  • Neighborhood Fire Suppression Strategy
  • Fire Suppression Equipment/Techniques
  • Practical Exercise

These in-depth classes are taught by firefighters at the Training Center and in your neighborhood.
