Why Take CORE?

You couldn't stop talking about it the first time.
It's going to happen again.
And chances are you'll be there.

In Oakland we are sitting on one of the most dangerous faults in the world and we are near another: The Hayward and the San Andreas faults.

Loma Prieta

5:04 p.m. October 17th, 1989.
The earth shook violently for 15 seconds.

  • Tons of concrete roadway slammed down to lower decks of freeways.
  • Drivers were crushed.
  • Gas lines and water-mains snapped like match sticks.
  • Thousands of people watched their homes crumbling around them, while power was cut off to tens of thousands more.
  • Fissures formed that were over one mile long, 4 feet wide, and 20 feet deep.
  • Many lives were lost making this the second deadliest earthquake in U.S. history to that date.
  • The bay area suffered nearly seven billion dollars in losses.

1906

How does this compare with the quake of 1906? Then the earth moved 22 feet. It was ten times more powerful than Loma Prieta. Would you know what to do if an earthquake that size rocked Oakland?

Recently the US Geological Survey reported there is a 67% chance of a magnitude 7 earthquake in the Bay Area in the next 30 years. That facts makes this area one of the highest earthquake hazard areas in the world. Are you willing to gamble that it won't happen in your lifetime?

Peace of Mind Has a New Name

There is a great likelihood that a major earthquake will occur within your lifetime, one that will cause enormous devastation. Emergency response skills will be critical to your safety.

There is no ciry of county that has enough resources to completely protect you from the ravages of a major quake or fire.

CORE will help you prepare for such an emergency by teaching you how to take more control of your safety. Are you ready for the challenge?
