What is Friends of the Oakland Fire Department?
Friends of the Oakland Fire Department is a nonprofit public benefit corporation and is not organized for the private gain of any person. It is organized under the non profit public benefit corporation law for charitable purposes
What is the purpose of Friends of the Oakland Fire Department?
The purpose of Friends of the Oakland Fire Department is to focus public attention on the facilities, services and needs of the Oakland Fire Department and the implementing of comprehensive strategies, public education and training in fire prevention, fire suppression, emergency medical services, all risk mitigation, emergency preparedness, 911 services and community based fire services; targeting but not limited to the specific fire safety/disaster preparedness needs and education of the disabled populations and frail senior citizens, to serve and provide charitable services for the Citizens of Oakland and all community based fire services including services to foreign language speaking citizens, and to encourage support of and gifts to the Oakland Fire Department.
Are donations to Friends of the Oakland Fire Department tax deductible? Yes. Friends of the Oakland Fire Department is a nonprofit, public benefit corporation established by the Fire Department of the City of Oakland solely for fire services. The articles were endorsed by the Secretary of State of California on June 29, 2001.

What happens to funds accumulated if FOFD should disband?
The property of this corporation is irrevocably dedicated to charitable purposes and no part of the net income or assets of this corporation shall ever inure to the benefit of any director, officer or member thereof or to the benefit of any private person. Upon dissolution of the cooperation its asset shall be distributed to the widows/widowers and the children or orphans of Oakland Fire fighters killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty and the remainder dispersed to programs described in the above statement of purpose.
Is there anything else I should know about Friends of the Oakland Fire Department?
Yes. This Corporation is organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c ) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code. No substantial part of the activities of this corporation shall consist of carrying on propaganda or otherwise attempting to influence legislation and the corporation shall not participate or intervene in any political campaign (including the publishing or distribution of statements) on behalf of any candidate for public office.

FACTS ABOUT FRIENDS OF THE OAKLAND FIRE DEPARTMENT (FOFD)
· FOFD is a 501 (c) non profit public benefit corporation organized for the general purpose of providing safety programs and services to every citizen of Oakland.
· FOFD also focuses particular attention on meeting the needs of those more vulnerable populations; seniors, foreign language programs, persons with disabilities and children.
· FOFD supports the implementing of comprehensive strategies, public education and training in fire prevention. FOFD beneficiary programs include but are not limited to; fire suppression, emergency medical services, all risk mitigation and emergency preparedness, 9-1-1 services and community based fire services.
