The Oakland Fire Department has firefighters on-duty 24hrs. to
respond for the unique incidents that can occur at the Oakland
International Airport.

The fire department will provide a license and bicycle sticker/tag
to track and return recovered bicycles. Bring your bicycle to
any city fire station, any day of the week, from 9:00 am to
5:00 pm. A $3.00 fee is charged.

The Training Division offers classes in First Aid and Cardio
Pulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) to the public.

In the event of a large scale incident most of the city's emergency
resources will be taxed. The Oakland Fire Department offers
training program called Citizens of
Oakland to Respond to Emergencies (C.O.R.E.). This training
teaches our communities to help themselves and to function independently.

Members of the fire service function as peer counselors who,
in partnership with mental health professionals, provide emotional
support for members who have experienced a traumatic emergency
response.

The Fire Safety House is an educational tool used to teach children
about fire safety within the home. Equipped with a 9-1-1 phone
and simulated smoke, the house is a welcome addition to our
"Fire Safety School". It can be seen at community
events and festivals throughout the city.

In response to the increasing volume of chemicals transported
through the City of Oakland daily, the Fire Department has developed
specialized teams of highly skilled individuals trained to manage
hazardous materials emergencies.

The Oakland Fire Department's Low Rider is an integral part
of the C.O.P.A. (Community Outreach Program Alternatives). The
low rider is lovingly maintained by dedicated fire fighters
and "Rocky" the mechanic from Oakland's Parks and
Recreation Department. Engineer "Melly Mel" and the
low rider give live performances at many of Oakland's festivals
and special events.

The Oakland Fire Department's Urban Search and Rescue Team is
one of 26 teams nationwide. In order to establish this team,
many of the members take classes on their own time and at a
great cost to themselves clearly showing the dedication Oakland's
firefighters have to their city. The team is made up of members
who specialize in several specialty areas including structural,
heavy crane operation, and technical search. The team may be
called upon to respond to emergencies occuring anywhere in the
United States or internationally that requires assistance. The
U.S.A.R. Team's added level of training enhances the Oakland
Fire Department's ability to protect and serve the citizens
of Oakland.
