Golden State Bonsai Garden Inside Lakeside Park Lakeside Park Garden Center Marsha J Corprew Memorial 666 Bellevue Avenue Oakland, California 94610 The Golden State Bonsai Collection North is the permanent home of over 100 outstanding bonsai trees and suiseki, mostly by California artists. Bonsai, "pot culture" in Japanese, capture the essence of giant trees and forests in miniature. Suiseki water stones represent miniature mountain ranges, people or animals naturally shaped in stone. These art forms reach across cultures and around the world. Of particular historical interest at Collection North is Daimyo Oak, a gift to President Lincoln's ambassador to China as he returned through Japan in 1863. Developed and supported by enthusiatic volunteers and donations, this open air cultural museum has been made possible with the cooperation of the City of Oakland and the Oakland Office of Parks and Recreation. It is a tax deductible, educational and charitable organization. Volunteer docents are available to answer your questions and assist private group tours.
*Please note: Closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day and in heavy rain. For more information or arrange for a tour please contact: The Golden State Bonsai
