Please note the following about private and special event classification:
  • Private/Routine Events are classified as private picnics, birthday parties, runs, walks, and related activities.

  • Special Events are classified as weddings, exhibits, festivals, concerts, rallies, sporting events, and related activities.

The Redwood Grove and Seqouia picnic areas are available for reservations for a fee of $75/day per picnic area. An additional refundable deposit of $75 is required to make a reservation. The East and West Picnic Areas are available for reservations for $10 a table/day. There is no deposit required but reservations are not confirmed until the balance of the rental is paid. To reserve a picnic area, please contact Kevin McTighe, Montclair Recreation Center Director at (510) 482-7812.


Redwood Heights Park

All picnic areas are available for reservations for $35/day. A refundable deposit of $75 is required to make a reservation. To schedule a reservation for our picnic areas please contact Gwen Austin, Redwood Heights Center Director at (510) 482-7827.


Additional Information
All reservations must be made no later than two (2) weeks prior to scheduled event.

If number of expected attendees is 50 or more, an Oakland Police Department (OPD) Special Event Permit Application is required. An OPD Special Event Permit needs to be applied not less than 30 days in advance nor more than 11 months prior to the proposed use of said park. This time frame is required to allow time for the applicant to meet and review the event with the Oakland Police Department. The OPD Special Event office can be contacted Monday thru Friday from 9:00am through 3:00pm at:

Any misrepresentation involved in renting a park will result in the immediate denial and/or revocation of the park use permit. Cancellation of the event and/or forfeiture of all fees paid.
