Parks and Recreations Shining Star For two years, Scott Means has been providing outstanding service, knowledgeable information to the public and patrons, generosity and dedication to the community, the City of Oakland, towards the goal of achieving independent living, ensuring equal opportunities and access for those with disabilities. On weekends Scott volunteers his time to coach a softball team; this is just one example of his dedication and selflessness. In 2003, through Scott's insightful planning and forethought, the Arroyo Viejo Recreation Center built an addition to the community center to include a fully accessible ADA center and playground. These qualifications have earned him the recognition of October’s Spotlighted Shining Star for the City of Oakland, Office of Parks and Recreation. Scott, who now serves as a Coordinator for Inclusive Recreation for Parks and Recreation, is being honored for his outstanding contributions and support to OPR and to the community. He was nominated by staff, administration and customers for decisive and exceptional customer service.
