Be a Volunteer
Volunteers are always welcomed, if you would like to volunteer, we encourage you to please contact the citywide program or center that you are interested in, directly for more information.

Community Gardening - Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
Many Oakland residents already know that the Lakeside Gardens are a lovely destination for an informative and relaxing afternoon. The Gardens contain an extensive variety of botanical curiosities. On weekends, there are horticultural workshops and exquisite flower shows for every gardening interest imaginable. Oakland Parks and Recreation also welcomes the participation of volunteers; especially during the spring and summer gardening seasons. Volunteering in a beautiful setting like the Lakeside Gardens can be very rewarding. Whether you have a professional background or a beginning interest in horticulture, give our staff a call at (510) 238-2197 and let us know how you would like to participate.

Earn Your Bike Program (EYBP) - Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
This is a volunteer program for everyone, from 16 years and up, who enjoy working with bicycles and/or bicycle repair. If you have that special touch with bicycles, please contact Marcy Sanchez, EYBP Program Coordinator, at (510) 238-3791 for more information.

Earthworms - Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
With the Rotary Nature Center, this is a volunteer program for everyone, from 16 years and up, who enjoy working with soil and making things grow. Or you can be part of our Native plants, butterfly or wetland projects. If you have that gentle touch and a green thumb, please contact the Stephanie Benavidez of the Rotary Nature Center at (510) 238-3739 for more information.

A Note of Appreciation
It is with great pride and honor that we show our appreciation and acknowledgement to such dedicated individuals and groups who have donated their time, effort, and thoughtfulness that directly benefits programs. Together we will make a difference, through committed service, community outreach, strengthening the community image and sense of place, encouraging recreational activities, and selfless dedication that are beneficial and necessary for the development and growth of the youth and community.
