Latino Leaders to be Recognized Posted in the Oakland Tribune on Friday, January 16, 2004 By Staff Reports Contributions to the Community Oakland ~ The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will honor three Alameda County Latino lawmakers tonight for legislative contributions they have made to the community during the past year. The dinner event -- "Year 2004 Salute to Legislators" -- begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Waterfront Plaza Hotel in Jack London Square. This year's honorees are Oakland City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente, State Senator Liz Figueroa and Alameda County Supervisor Alice Lai-Bitker. They will receive the Hispanic Chamber's Community Service Award. "Each awardee has compiled an exceptional record of accomplishment as an elected official and community member," event committee chairperson John Casas said in a written statement. "But on this special occasion, we have chosen to shine the spotlight on a single and lasting community contribution that each has made."
