The two agencies are partnering to offer the award for the first time this year. Youngsters, adults, businesses and organizations that have demonstrated courage and character through acts of heroism may be nominated for an award. A ceremony will be held March 18 in Oakland.

Nominations are due by February 2, 2004 in the following categories:

Life-Saving Award
Nominee may be a professional responder or a citizen at large who performed an extraordinary life-saving act using CPR or another skill.

Act of Kindness Award
Nominees should be associated with a rescue or other act of extraordinary kindness that made a difference in Alameda County.

Community Service Award
Nominees must have performed an extraordinary community service that made a difference in Alameda County. One award will be given to an individual and a second will be given to a business or organization.

Animal Rescue or Aid Award
Nominees must be associated with a rescue that involved an animal within Alameda County. The rescue may have involved an animal that protected a human, or it may have involved a person who helped an animal.
