Port to sponsor new art festival Posted in the San Francisco Chronicle on Thursday, January 27, 2005 Written by Jim Herron Zamora The Port of Oakland is sponsoring a new art festival in July that will use everything from city parks to vacant lots and unused buildings to exhibit visual arts and host performers. The event has been dubbed "Bayennale" -- the Bay Area International Biennial Arts Festival, international, biennial arts festival, modeled after the London and Berlin Biennales. The 16-day event begins July 22. It is being organized by volunteers and artists ranging from Lowell Darling, a Sonoma County satirist and conceptual artist, to The Lab, an experimental performance art group in San Francisco. Organizers need volunteers to help coordinate the event and artists and performers to participate. For further information visit the festival's Web site at www.bayennale.com.
