Oakland ~ The City of Oakland, Office of Parks & Recreation (OPR) held a successful community information fair at Lincoln Square recreation center located in the heart of Chinatown, just blocks from downtown Oakland. This innovative and absolutely free fair was held on Sunday, February 8, 2004 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

In support of the community and promoting awareness and safety the Oakland Fire Department and the Earn Your Bike Program was on hand. Inside of the gym, there were a variety of informative and fun-filled booths and activities set up, while the traditional Chinese dragon stole the show, chasing his tale around the entire gym before following a mystic ball to and from the center, to the amazement and awe of the group.

With 20 vendors participating, 300 participants the fair was quite successful as bags and hands were overflowing with information and giveaways from local clubs and organizations, support groups and City of Oakland programs.

The fair allowed visitors to the center to learn about free and low-costing programs, fun activities for tiny tots through seniors, community resources and opportunities. Information tables lined the entire gym in a circle offering interactive displays, workshops, games, refreshments and giveaways.
