3 area high schools win $250,000 in aid Posted in the San Francisco Chronicle on Friday, March 4, 2005 Written by Meredith May Three struggling East Bay high schools will receive a quarter of a million dollars each from the California Department of Education for their after-school programs. As part of the federal No Child Left Behind Act, California is doling out $3.55 million to improve safety and educational opportunities for teenagers in schools that rank below a three on the state's Academic Performance Index, which ranks schools from one to 10. Encinal High in Alameda and McClymonds and Castlemont high schools in Oakland are among the 21 high schools statewide that won the grants. Each will receive $250,000.
