Summer camp fair gives families a head start on activities Posted in the Oakland Tribune on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 Written by Catherine Schutz It's March, so it's time to start planning for summer camp. Although summer is months away, savvy families begin signing their kids up now for summer programs. One of the best places to get a jump on the huge variety of activities out there is the annual Children's Summer Programs Information Fair, which runs from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Scottish Rite Center in Oakland. Admission is free. Sponsored by the Oakland-Piedmont Branch of the American Association of University Women, this 24th annual fair has booths and representatives from nearly 100 sleep-away camps and local day programs. Parents and kids can browse the offerings, chat with camp directors and in some cases sign up on the spot. Traditional camp programs as well as programs emphasizing sports, academics, drama, art and music and special needs will be represented. The Scottish Rite Center is at 1547 Lakeside Drive, across from Lake Merritt in Oakland. For more information call (510) 287-9855. Oakland Tribune
