With 185 students from eight schools, the Oakland Public Schools Strings Festival promises to be an exciting night of music, organizers say.

Skyline High School will host the inaugural strings celebration Thursday, which features Oakland East Bay Symphony conductor Michael Morgan. (The school was the venue for last month's Oakland Public Schools Jazz Festival.)

The strings festival will include orchestras from three high schools and five middle schools -- Oakland Technical, Oakland, and Skyline high schools, as well as Bret Harte, Havenscourt, Montera, Roosevelt and West Lake middle schools.

At the end of the evening, Morgan will conduct an orchestra with 185 students from the eight participating schools, organizers said.
