The final and much anticipated league games took place on Saturday, March 27, 2004 from 8:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. (with times varying per participating location) at ten gyms city-wide which included recreation centers, middle and high school locations in East, West, North and Central/Downtown Oakland. Currently the Junior Warrior Basketball Leagues are divided into divisions of Pee Wee, Elementary Girls, Elementary Boys, Middle School Girls, and Middle School Boys based upon participant ages and school grades. “March Madness”
“This was one of the best seasons we’ve had because we didn’t have a traditional playoff, instead we had leagues that were less competitive and focused more on the sport as a fun and team oriented activity for the boys and girls who participated in the Junior Warriors Basketball League. The focus was primarily on the development of each individual player and then each player as part of a dynamic team. In the end everyone was a winner, each youth walked away with having had the opportunity to play, to be part of a basketball team, and presented with a certificate of achievement. “ ~ Melvin Landry, Youth Sports Director City-wide Sports Department
