City of Oakland Named Tree City USA Monday, April 19, 2004 Recognized by The National Arbor Day Foundation Oakland ~ The City of Oakland was named a Tree City USA by The National Arbor Day Foundation for the 20th year to commemorate the outstanding commitment demonstrated to maintaining and preserving our natural resources. The National Arbor Day Foundation sponsors the annual Tree City USA program in collaboration with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. It is an honor to be recognized by The National Arbor Day Foundation whose motto is “we help people plant and care for trees.” With the unwavering dedication of the Tree Division, City associates, volunteers, partnering organizations and caring individuals, Oakland has met the required criteria and standards to qualify as a Tree City USA. We congratulate everyone who continuously supports our environmental efforts and whose hard work ensures that we have open spaces and parkland for future generations to enjoy. The City of Oakland will celebrate Tree City USA on Arbor Day at Brookdale Recreation Center located at 2535 High Street in Oakland. The annual event is coordinated by the Tree Division through the Parks & Recreation Department. Please join us for the dedication of Arbor Day on Friday, April 30, 2004 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. “Tree City USA honors the countless men, women, and children in Oakland who are working hard to ensure a greener, healthier tomorrow for us all.” ~ John Rosenow, President of the National Arbor Day Foundation City of Oakland, Office of Parks & Recreation
