Oakland ~ The Oakland school district plans to kick off its inaugural "Healthy Kids -- Healthy Schools -- Healthy Communities" fair Saturday at the Oakland Convention Center, 1001 Broadway.

The free event runs from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

It will offer school-age children free immunizations, diabetes and asthma screenings, blood pressure tests and consultations with doctors.

Along with the free medical tests, the fair also includes prizes and a chance to meet local athletes, organizers said.

For the event, parents should bring immunization cards, medical histories and a list of current medications being taken by their children, according to organizers.

To obtain more information about the free event, call (510) 869-8219.
