Berkeley's Rowing Teams Going to Cincinnati Event Posted in the El Cerrito Journal a publication of the Contra Costa Times on Friday, May 28, 2004 Article by El Cerrito Journal Staff Writers Berkeley High School, one of only two high schools in the Pacific Southwest region to field a crew team, is sending two boats to the United States Junior Rowing Championships to be held in Cincinnati on June 5. The boys lightweight eight varsity boat has qualified after winning a silver medal at the Pacific Southwest Regionals at Lake Natoma in early May. The lightweight eight boat consists of coxswain Mark Grossberg and rowers Hogan Edelberg, Zack Mitchell, Will Kalkamis-Ellis, Toby Bilovsky, Zander Bice, James Barnett, Christin Davis and Aaron Goldman. The lightweight four boat won a gold medal at the Regionals. The coxswain is Grossberg and the rowers are Edelberg, Mitchell, Goldman and Kalkamis-Ellis. The crew is looking for financial help in offsetting the cost of the trip to the nationals, which is estimated at $500 per participant.
