The American Red Cross Bay Area is holding its fourth annual Save the Day gala from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at the Oakland Museum of California to raise funds to assist local residents affected by disaster as well as to support health, safety and youth programs.

"The American Red Cross spends $3,000 each day to help residents of Alameda County, "said Marian Wilson-Sylvestre, external affairs officer for the organization "We are looking for local companies to step forward to save a family's day, a half day or even a morning by sponsoring this event. And individuals can help by saving just a half hour."

Alameda County Fire departments are helping the Red Cross by "passing the boot." Firefighters are being asked to contribute just $5 each. Individual tickets are available for $125 by calling (510) 595-4460. Last year, the Save the Day gala raised $40,000 to help support hotel stays, clothing needs, CPR training and teaching youngsters first aid.
