Oakland Public Library Children's Room Under Construction

The Children's Room in the Main Library will be closed from Thursday, July 1 through Wednesday, July 14. It will reopen on Thursday, July 15 in the Main Library's West Auditorium (basement level). Construction in the Children's Room is anticipated to continue for several months, during which time the Oak Street entrance will be closed.

Please note:

  • Due dates for borrowed materials will not change during closure, July 1 - 14
  • Kids are encouraged to sign up and play the Summer Reading Game
  • Hours for Children's services in the West Auditorium will remain the same
  • Preschool storytimes on Mondays will be canceled
  • Groups must call in advance before visiting the Children's Room while it is in the West Auditorium (238-3615)
  • Entrance to West Auditorium is through 14th Street entrance (wheelchair accessible) and Madison Street side

Watch for exciting news in the fall about the reopening date for our newly renovated Children's Room! New features will include:

  • Enhanced multi-media collections (including DVDs)
  • More popular books
  • Expanded array of computers
  • Comfortable nooks for reading & more…
