Emergency info on Web Posted in The Oakland Tribune on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 Written by STAFF REPORTS An Oakland community disaster preparedness program has set up a new Web site to help the city's neighborhoods prepare for possible disaster, according to the Oakland Fire Department Office of Emergency Services. If a major disaster took place, emergency response teams could be overwhelmed for up to 72 hours after the event, leaving many neighborhoods to fend for themselves. The goal of CORE -- or Citizens of Oakland Respond to Emergencies -- is to ensure Oakland neighborhoods are organized and prepared to be self-reliant in the event of an emergency. The new Web site provides tips on preparing for possible emergencies, as well as a schedule of CORE classes, class descriptions and lists of important emergency tools and equipment. The Web site is www.oaklandnet.com/fire/core/index.html Oakland Tribune: General Contact Information
