Northern California Lifeguard Games For Immediate Release on Friday, August 4, 2006 by James Wheeler On July 30th the City of Oakland sent three teams to compete in the Northern California Lifeguard Games. There were 35 competing teams at the event where the competition was fierce. The Office of Parks and Recreation had a day to be proud of and showed the rest of the Bay Area that there is pride and talent at the Oakland Pools. Parks and Recreation's team #2 finished 3rd overall! The Spinal Injury Management teams had the only perfect scores of the day and finished 1st (Jason Hickman and Vanessa Lee) and 2nd (Brian Tang and Helen Tuman) in that event. Rookie Lifeguard Joi Glass finished 3rd in the Submerged Victim Rescue and placed third overall in the Iron Woman Points. The highlight of the Day was Lifeguard Brian Tang taking 1st place in the Active Victim Rescues and winning the Iron Guard award as the highest point scoring male in the entire competition.
