The Jack London Aquatic Center invites Oakland high school girls to join its 2004-2005 rowing team. The cost is $75 per semester, and some fee waivers are available.

Interested girls and families are invited to visit the center at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19. Rowers on last year's team and coach Jenny Hale will attend the events. She has coached at University of California and Kansas State University. The center is located in Oakland's Estuary Park on the Embarcadero between Oak Street and Fifth Avenue, about one mile south of Jack London Square.

Girls will receive swimming and water-safety training during the first weeks of the program. The team will practice four days a week after school and will compete against other Bay Area and California teams this fall and spring. For more information, call 510-208-6060 ext. 1, or visit www.jlac.org.
