Loves Labour’s Lost Wednesday, September 10, 2003 Oakland ~ Free Shakespeare in the Park opens this weekend in San Francisco's bucolic Golden Gate Park. Please join us for the rollicking romantic comedy Love's Labour's Lost, playing August 30 through September 21st in the meadow just west of the Flower Conservatory, across West Conservatory Drive (near the intersection of JFK and W. Conservatory Drive). Shows are Saturdays and Sundays at 1:30 pm. There's also a special 'Labour' Day Monday performance at 1:30 p.m. Bring a picnic and a blanket or low-backed lawn chair and enjoy this lively and fun comedy, free of charge. Free Shakespeare in the Park began in 1983, with its debut production of The Tempest in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. It is now one of the major free Shakespeare programs in the nation. Produced every year in San Francisco, Oakland, Pleasanton and Cupertino from July to October, Free Shakespeare in the Park provides an opportunity for everyone to see high quality, professional theater free of charge. This summer, the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival presents the hilarious comedy Loves Labour’s Lost. In an effort to concentrate on their studies, a young King and his noblemen make a pact to swear off all distractions, including dating! When the Princess of France arrives with her traveling companions all bets are off, proving once again that love does conquer all. After the show closes in San Francisco we will complete our 21st season at Lake Merrit's Lakeside Park in Oakland. The shows will take place at Duck Pond Meadow (Perkins and Bellevue), and dates are September 27 through October 5, Saturdays and Sundays at 4:00 p.m. For directions and more information, visit www.sfshakes.org or call (415) 865-4434.
