Center to Dish Out Sweet Lessons Posted in the Montclarion a publication of Contra Costa Times on Friday, September 17, 2004 Written by Tricia Casters, Staff Writer Next Saturday, the Junior Center for Art and Science will treat Oakland residents to mountains of Fentons' ice cream. Not for making sundaes -- for learning. From 1 to 3 p.m. on Sept. 25, children and their parents can move among various stations creating ice cream science experiments and art. The event is sponsored by Fentons Creamery, located on Piedmont Avenue. "We wanted to find a fun way to inform the public about what the center does," said Junior Center Executive Director Tamara Katsikas. The Lake Merritt center offers after-school programs, drop-in activities, school workshops, teacher training, and summer day camps for some 36,000 East Bay children ages 3 and up, she said. Parents dropping off their children often say, "I wish I could stay and do this, too," Katsikas said. "As adults, we don't have opportunities to learn in a fun way." The number of participants for next Saturday's event is limited, and reservations are required. The cost is $2. Call 510-839-5777 for more information or go to www.juniorcenter.org. The Junior Center for Art and Science is located at 558 Bellevue Ave. Reach Tricia Casters at 510-748-1682 or## tcaspers@cctimes.com. If you go
