City Councilwoman Jane Brunner, North Oakland (District 1) asks residents to attend the next monthly Community Advisory Meeting from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 9. The main topic of discussion will be what's on the Nov. 4 election ballot -- including Oakland's Violence Prevention Measure and Proposition 66 on the state ballot, which aims to reform the "three strikes" law. Oakland Police Chief Richard Word and San Francisco District Attorney Terrence Hallinan plan to attend. The meeting will be at Peralta Elementary School, 460 63rd St.; there is parking on Alcatraz, just east of Telegraph Avenue. After the meeting, there will be a grand opening celebration and dedication of North Oakland's newest park, the Dover Street/Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza Park. The park is on Dover Street between 58th and Aileen streets. The event includes a neighborhood barbecue, music and more. For more details, call (510) 238-7001 or send e-mail to zwald@oaklandnet.com.
