Oakland Zoo enters online contest Posted in the Contra Costa Times on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 Written by Staff Writers The Oakland Zoo may be "America's Favorite Zoo." Known worldwide for its progressive animal management and ambitious elephant breeding program, the zoo has been selected as a semi-finalist in the Microsoft Game Studio's "Zoo Tycoon 2, 'America's Favorite Zoo'" contest. Oakland Zoo will compete with 14 other United States zoos for a chance at a $25,000 grant, to be applied to animal care or maintenance, and the honor of being named "America's Favorite Zoo." Semi-finalists were chosen by a panel of experts; the next two rounds will be decided by popular vote. A link to the online poll can be found on the Oakland Zoo Web site at www.oaklandzoo.org or on the Microsoft Web site at www.microsoft.com/games/zootycoon/zoo2/favorite-zoo.asp. Semi-final voting ends Oct. 29, and five finalists will be announced Nov. 1. Then voting will begin for the final round, and the grand prize winner will be announced Nov. 16.
