The Oakland East Bay Symphony, conducted by Michael Morgan, will play its fifth annual concert at Crockett's John Swett High School Auditorium Saturday.

The theme this year is "Fantasia," and the concert will include Paul Dukas' "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," three dances from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite" and other music from the 1940 Walt Disney classic film.

The concert is sponsored by the Crockett Community Foundation and the John Swett Parents, Teachers and Students Association and will begin at 7 p.m. The concert will last two hours with one intermission. Seats are reserved. Tickets are $15 and can be bought at the Crockett Community Center, 850 Pomona St. or by calling Litia Bohlig, PTSA president, at 510-787-2414 or 707-246-3388. Tickets will also be sold at the door on concert night. The high school is at 1098 Pomona St.

Free parking will be available at Carquinez Middle School across Pomona from the high school. Volunteers will be posted in the parking lot and will usher people through the tunnel that connects the schools.

The program will also include movements from Barber's Violin Concerto and Shostakovich's Cello Concerto. The John Swett High School Marching Band will join Morgan and the symphony on Copland's "Hoe Down." Soprano Ardith Bertorello, a retired John Swett school district teacher who has performed with the Diablo Light Opera and the Lamplighters and Woodminster ensembles, will sing "When You Wish Upon A Star" from Disney's "Pinocchio." This year's two winners of the symphony's Young Artists competition will perform with the symphony.

As in previous years, the community foundation is funding the concert. Proceeds from ticket sales will go toward the ongoing renovation of the 1920s auditorium.
